Chapter 12

 Chapter 12

Our focus this week was on Chapter 12 which I found to be very useful. I joined this class since social media is a huge field and is only growing in the future but also due to my ambitions of being an entrepreneur. In order to be successful in launching your business or selling a product one needs to know how to market. And even if one outsources it as mentioned in the chapter it is still useful to know some basics. Chapter 12 focuses on different social media platforms and different options to expand your reach. It also explains in great detail a blueprint for how to go about this in the correct way. It is interesting to see how much planning goes into social media marketing, and yes there is of course overlap with marketing. however, it is important to understand the internet and how having an online presence really works. It is a big-time investment with no immediate payback and is therefore an area in which it is not easy to become a known figure. Having a strategy that is well thought out will ensure high chances of success. And make sure to constantly re-evaluate the data.

I want to now focus on one thing mentioned in particular. The fact that advertisements on websites are mostly mundane and pointless as the user is not paying them any mind showing us a poor engagement rate. But when marketing a product on a podcast it is perceived positively.

I agree with this, although I did not think of this prior but was brought to my attention whilst reading about it. The book suggests that this is due to podcasts and vlogs being more personable as one is able to connect with the person. One gets a sneak peek into the influencer's life. And once again I agree. I can prove it to you ...
Often famous and popular influencers that are publishing podcasts and vlogs end up launching their own product line. Since they now have a following their fans will buy and promote their product through word of mouth. This impacts not only their own products but also products they are seen using during their videos.

I will leave you with this thought. How often do you see some influencer you follow, use a product and catch yourself thinking: "I should buy this." without having much of an idea if what he/she is using is any good and worth the purchase let alone if you even need it.
